Creating a Novel Text

11.jpg
Ha ha. Before I start, just a quick disclaimer. This will help you achieve a comic book/graphic novel effect using photos and filters, but a true graphic novel takes a lot more work than that. With that disclaimer aside, if you’ve got the right set of photographs, or even if you take your own photographs specifically for this purpose, you could make a comic that’s truly unique, original, and eye pleasing.

To start off, let’s make a new document:

I’ve obviously already got my pictures selected. You’ll want to organize them on your document in a way that makes sense for a comic book:

To help with the comic book style, each of these images should be pasted and then cut to size. Next, a 1px black stroke should be applied individually to the layers:

Using the Custom Shape tool, choose a dialog box that suits your narrative and use a white fill with a 1px black stroke:

Now flatten the image, and choose Filter > Texture > Grain and use these settings:

Your output should be similar to this:

Now do Filter > Artistic > Film Grain with these settings:

Now simply add your text to the captions and you’re done:
