to obtain this effect:

STEP 5: Go to Filter -> Stylize -> Glowing Edges and set values like these:

Your matrix design is ready:

STEP 6: To animate the design, first duplicate twice the layer (Background). To do this, drag the layer to New Layer icon:

and repeat the step to create the second layer.

STEP 7: Double click on each new layer name to rename them. Use “top” and “middle”:

STEP 8: Click the Edit in ImageReady button (or press Shift+Ctrl+M). If you are using CS2 or CS3 version, just go to Window -> Animation, and work in the same way that in ImageReady.

In the first frame, select the “top” layer and move it upwards, until move it out of frame. Hold down Shift when you move the layer to keep the vertical alignment.

Duplicate the selected frame and on the new frame, move downwards the “top” layer to its original position.

On the second frame, select the “middle” layer and move it downwards, until move it out of frame. Hold down Shift when you move the layer to keep the vertical alignment. You can hide the “top” and/or Background layer to see better.

STEP 9: Set the duration of frames to 0.1 sec to a slow movement, or set to No Delay to a faster movement.

STEP 10: Click Tweens button, and Add between 5 and 10 frames (more frames = slower animation)

STEP 11: Delete the last frame.
